Making music together is a very important part of my life. Writing songs and playing them for myself always creates positive vibes and helps me to cope with the world. Creating songs together as a band is for me the most intense, unfathomable, ambivalent and addictive part of making music. There is as much work, time and communication in our music as there is fun, spirit and love.
My songwriting is limited to lyrics and chords, but I write and sing my songs myself. A song is then created through the feedback and input from my bandmates and their respective expertise on their instruments. I have a classical education in flute and have learned to improvise through the many jam sessions with my band and many other musicians. Some time ago I gave up on understanding music theory, it just doesn’t seem to be my way of creating music.
My journey into the world of music and playing in a band was quite random. And there were (almost) no female musicians, producers, technicians I met along the way.
My hope is that this platform will contribute to support FLINTA*, because it's about time that structural and gender violence in music making processes is broken.
