Afi Sika Kuzeawu is a multimedia artist working as a composer, double bassist, vocalist and performer. She grew up in Lomé, Togo, and at first followed an academic path, with a degree in economics. Before long, however, she began to question this career and turned towards introspection. In that process she discovered her inner music, which spoke with such force that she could not help but follow its call. She started playing double bass and composing, which eventually led her to study jazz at the University of the Arts in Bern (HKB).
In 2021 her first album “nubu” was released, recorded together with drummer Flo Hufschmid and pianist Gianni Guida. The original compositions reflect the musical influences from her home country Togo and, with their rich and shifting rhythms, carry listeners through changing spheres and universes.
In her performances, everything also revolves around music: whether in musical storytelling or in crossover projects where she combines voice, double bass, bodily movement and analytical, research‑based perspectives. In terms of content, her work repeatedly focuses on introspection and on the boundaries between inner and outer worlds – and on how these boundaries can be crossed. She performed at the Ruhrtriennale in 2018, and from October 2025 she appears as performer and musician in the new production “Nowhere Girl” at Vorstadttheater Basel.
